How many interpreters do I need to hire?

How many interpreters do I need to hire?

It depends. If it is an assignment mainly conducted in the consecutive mode and lasting up to two hours one interpreter may suffice provided you give the interpreter periodic breaks at the interpreter’s discretion. The number and length of breaks may increase in accordance with the complexity of the subject at hand and the length of the meeting.

If the assignment is mainly conducted in the simultaneous mode (e.g. lecture, training, trial, etc.) you will need to hire two interpreters that will work as a team. Team interpreters will switch off every 15 to 30 minutes, as deemed necessary by team members, due to the intensive cognitive activity involved in simultaneous interpreting. Simultaneous interpreting generally requires the use of equipment.
