2013 Interpreter Bills

This year, the Senate is under Republican control for the first time in many years. No spoken language interpreter bill passed the legislature this year.

HB1753 Reforms the procurement of spoken language interpreting services for all state agencies and would grant L&I interpreters the right to unionize.

HB1542/SB5398 Expands the AOC court interpreter reimbursement program to cover all state courts.

HB1709 Requires training for volunteer foreign language interpreters in K-12 public schools.

HB1815 Directs the Washington State School Directors' Association to develop a model Language Access policy and procedure that requires use of adult language interpreters, not students, for school meetings and includes a manual of guidelines and interpretation and translation resources.
