When compared with other Individual Providers (e.g. Home Health or Childcare workers), interpreters have a very restrictive scope of bargaining. Under current state law, interpreters (a.k.a. Language Access Providers) are limited to bargain only over economic compensation, professional development, grievance process, and union-management committee meetings. This year, Interpreters United is asking the legislature to expand their scope of bargaining to include health benefits and other economic matters (e.g. web portal issues).
