Location: Brightwater Environmental Education and Community Center 22505 WA-9, Woodinville, WA 98072 INTERPRETERS UNITED LOCAL 1671/AFCSME Council 28 proudly announces its Summer workshop Ethics Workshop: Impartiality at any cost? presented by Milena Calderari-Waldron Our society has high expectations for professional interpreters. This workshop will explore interpreters’ imperative to be impartial and neutral as well as its parameters. Outline: Saturday July 21, 2018 Brightwater Environmental Education and Community Center 22505 WA-9, Woodinville, WA 98072 Continuing Education Credits will be requested from DSHS/LTC and WA AOC Certificates of attendance will be awarded to all 3-hour attendees. There is no credit for late arrivals or early departures. This workshop is available to all Interpreters United members at no cost. Non-members can sign up to become a union member by downloading, signing and returning the membership form, or can sign up at the door, if desired. 9:15 am Registration opens 10:00 – 11:30 Workshop 11:30 – Noon Break & Potluck Lunch Noon to 2:00 pm Local 1671 Statewide Meeting (working lunch) 2:00 - 2:30 Break 2:30 – 4:00 Workshop cont. TO REGISTER, attendees shall send an email to [email protected] with the following information: A. Full name as it appears on the DSHS/LTC database which can be updated by sending an email to [email protected]. B. DSHS Certificates' number as they appear in the DSHS/LTC online database. They should include the two letters and all numbers (including all zeroes). MC (Medical Certified), MA (Medical Authorized), SC (Social Services Certified), SA (Social Services Authorized), TC (Translator Certified). C. City and county of residence. D. Working languages. E. Travel expenses can be claimed pursuant to Local 1671 Policy #1 posted under the Members Only tab of this website. Presenter: Milena Calderari-Waldron, WA Court and DSHS Medical & Social Services Certified Spanish Interpreter. An Archaeology graduate from the University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne, she was a National Council for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICET) doctoral grant fellow and taught Argentine Archaeology at the University of Buenos Aires. She is currently the Secretary of Interpreters United Local 1671/AFSCME Council 28; Adjunct Faculty for Ethics and Business Practices for Interpreters at the Bellevue Community College Translation and Interpretation Certificate Program; and a member of the ATA Interpreters Division Leadership Council and ASTM F43 Technical Committee on Language Services and Products.
