Time: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm INTERPRETERS UNITED LOCAL 1671/AFCSME Council 28 proudly announces its Fall workshop Medical History and Other Stories presented by Gloria M. Rivera CMI, CHI Saturday October 20, 2018 Maggie Perez Student Success Center, Ahtanum Auditorium Directions: From either way off the freeway, take the East Yakima Avenue (downtown) exit, stay on East Yakima Avenue for about 9 lights, making sure you cross the railroad tracks. After the tracks, take a left hand turn at North Second Avenue (there will be a coffee shop on your left). Behind the coffee shop are three ESD buildings, come to the third building named "Maggie Perez Student Success Building". There is all day parking in front of all three buildings. There is also a parking lot across the street. As medical interpreters, we fill out paperwork at doctor’s offices; A LOT of paperwork. These medical forms may be riddled with terminology and some may seem easy, some may seem familiar, and some may just look like “obscure terms”. Since a medical history is a medical-legal document and the main source of information for a healthcare provider it is very important that we become a conduit and not a bad filter of the information the patient gives to said provider. During this 3-hour language neutral (English) workshop, participants will become familiar with the general medical history, about its parts and the terminology of each, as well as items related to child and adult illnesses. Also, we will build a glossary during class. All languages and levels are welcome. DSHS/LTC has granted 3 General Continuing Education Credits Certificates of attendance will be awarded to all 3-hour attendees. There is no credit for late arrivals or early departures. This workshop is available to all Interpreters United members at no cost. Non-members can sign up to become a union member by downloading, signing and returning the membership form, or can sign up at the door, if desired. 9:15 am Registration opens 10:00 – 11:30 Workshop 11:30 – Noon Break & Potluck Lunch Noon to 2:00 pm Local 1671 Statewide Meeting (working lunch) 2:00 - 2:30 Break 2:30 – 4:00 Workshop cont.
